The Jerusalem UFO: Fact or Fiction?
At the very end of January, videos posted on the internet showed a brilliant white light lingering over the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem—but was it real, or a hoax? People will tell you different things. One fearless blogger investigates the truth.
Several videos depicted a mysterious light suspended over Jerusalem's Dome of the Rock at approximately 1:00 am on January 28th, prompting questions about the possibility of a UFO. While the videos that captured the strange occurrence led many to believe that aliens had truly come to earth, a real-life version of the 1977 film Close Encounters of the Third Kind, others grew increasingly skeptical and claimed the whole thing was fake.
Those who believe that the light was, indeed, a Jerusalem UFO use the presence of several videos taken during the alleged sighting. Many of these videos feature a light appearing in the dark night sky, lingering over the Dome of the Rock, and then rapidly traveling upwards. Those who maintain the light was a hoax question the validity of the videos that appeared all over the internet and also refer to the inadequate size of the supposed Jerusalem UFO. In Ian O'Neill's article "Jerusalem UFO 'Almost Certainly A Hoax,' Benjamin Radford, a contributor for Discovery News, pointed out that the white light of the Jerusalem UFO did not cast any light onto the Dome of the Rock, and labels the light as a hoax.
Regardless of whether you believe the UFO was real or fake, the videos on Youtube that depict the sighting are definitely worth checking out. For one of the most famous videos of the Jerusalem UFO, direct your browser to "UFO seen over Jerusalem updated with translation," which features a proclamation that there was a UFO and then features footage of the light. The video has over 870,000 views and approximately 1,900 comments as of March 1st, showing the popularity of the Jerusalem UFO. As of now, we don't know exactly what happened at the early hour of 1:00 am on January 28th—perhaps we'll never know. But that makes it all even more intriguing, right?
