Tisha B’av Annual Fast Day
Tisha B'av recalls general tragedies which have befallen the Jewish people over the ages, and shines importance on those events.
Tisha B'av focuses on major events, and is meant to prove a sincere devotion and gratitude toward those who have lost to help forward the futures and wellbeing of their people.
The fast lasts about 25 hours, beginning at sunset on the eve of Tisha B'av and concluding at nightfall the next day. Tisha B'av will begin at sunset on August 8 of this year, and end at nightfall of August 9. If you are going to be visiting Jerusalem during this time, be aware that many restaurant and stores may be closed during Tisha B'av.
As far as celebrations in Jerusalem for Tisha B'av go, there will be a lot of mourning on the day, which will in fact be a sight to see. The day is a great one to view the real devotion of the Jewish faith, and the traditions that prove this belief. If you would like to witness the strength of the religion in Jerusalem first hand, this day would be a great one to marvel at the power of the Jewish belief and tradition.
