In the Jewish tradition there is a holiday which represents the new year in a very unique way. On Tu b’Shvat trees are planted all throughout Israel, with large donations for the event sent internationally. Attending the holiday’s celebrations is an unique way to witness Jerusalem’s dominant religion.

Judaism celebrates not only one new year like so many do, but the religion recognizes four new years. One of the new years celebration is Tu B’Shvat, and is known as the new year of the trees. This holiday comes from the ancient tradition of a certain way to predict tree’s ages. Tu B’Shvat is held on the 15th day of Sh’Vat, and is celebrated in many different ways.

If you are adventuring through Jerusalem during Tu B’Shvat then there are many celebrations you may be interested in attending. On this day, Jewish people throughout Israel plant many trees together. Internationally, donations are sent to Israel to help in the growing efforts. Tu B’Shvat is celebrated in Jerusalem throughout the city welcoming all people from all religions.

Not only will the planting of trees be done on Tu B’Shvat, but the religion will also be celebrated by the eating of special fruits drawn from the land of Israel. Tu B’Shvat is an unique way to experience Jerusalem and its rich culture. The new years of trees will be held this year beginning on the sunset of February 7 through the sunset of February 8.
