Jerusalem for Kids

Jan 15 , 2011

Embarking on a family trip here? From thrilling tours to interactive museum exhibits, there are dozens of sights to see and things to do in Jerusalem for kids.

Jerusalem is well known for its historical and religious landmarks and attractions, as well as great restaurants and fantastic museums. All of which would entice anyone to visit this holy city, but kids might need a little something extra. Fortunately for you, the attractions in Jerusalem for kids are sure to keep them – and you – happy.

Western Wall

Visiting Jerusalem offers an amazing chance for kids to experience cultural history at a young age. The Western Wall, also known as the Wailing Wall, is a great place to take kids, and it is one of the most holy places in the Jewish faith. At first glance, this might not seem especially enticing for children, but a tour of the Western Wall’s tunnels will surely pique any kid’s sense of adventure. Tours are led by guides, and reservations must be made in advance. The tunnels give great insight into what Jerusalem looked like in the past, and make a great attraction for kids and parents alike.

Museums

Jerusalem offers several museums designed to interest children. The Science Museum offers kid-friendly exhibits on all kinds of major scientific theories, and it makes a great destination when the weather is particularly hot or cold. Kids are also bound to love the Youth Wing of the Israel Museum. Adults enjoy this national museum for its leading architecture and archaeology exhibits, which include historic treasures like the Dead Sea Scrolls. Kids might find these a little boring, so the Youth Wing has been designed to keep kids energized and interested. There are many interactive craft workshops, as well as great books on Israel's history.

Time Elevator

If you want your kids to get a taste of Israel and Jerusalem's history, but you just don't think a typical museum setting can keep their interest, take a ride on the Time Elevator. With a moving film show and seating that moves and interacts with what's on screen, you and your kids will fly through 3,000 years of Jerusalem's past. Kids will appreciate the theme-park-style-ride, and they’ll be getting a crash course in the history of one of the world's sacred cities – if you won’t tell, we won’t tell!

Biblical Zoo

The Biblical Zoo is a favorite amongst children. Housing and showing animals that were around during Biblical times, the Zoo is very well kept and makes a great place to have a picnic lunch with your family.

When you’re in Jerusalem with kids, there’s an endless amount of fun and educational attractions to visit. Spend some quality time with you family seeing and doing things that you’ll never forget.
